More Vanilla House Samples - Patterns for Babies and Girls

Day 2 of the Vanilla House Samples I sewed for my mom:

I sewed a couple of these Bopple Balls (the picture does not do them justice).  The arms take a while so do it in front of a movie.  The actual construction is very fast.  I'm keeping one of these for myself too.  Babies love 'em.

Third...my favorite (I've made almost ten) is the baby girl bib called Diva Babies.  I wanted to call it Breakfast at Tiffany's but I suppose that's not very original.  These are so so cute.  When I first started sewing baby bibs, I felt like they were a lot of effort when you can buy them for cheap.  But I love being able to use really neat bibs because I take lots of pictures of the baby in the high chair!  And they make great gifts.  Now I wish I had a girl....

Speaking of girls, I made these doll dresses and went over to two little girls' house to put them on these American GirlsKit (from the 30's), and Julie (from the 70's).  You know, I was worried they'd look squarish but they were pretty cute on the dolls.

Kitchen Kritters Hot Pads

I made these exactly out of the fabrics on the pattern cover.  I really love Riley Blake prints and it gave me an excuse to spend $9/yd as I sent them to my mom for Quilt Market related use (it is her pattern).

Polka Dot Curtains

I'm going to share my craft room now, so instead of my purple curtains, I wanted to throw together something less girly.  Here are the instructions I made up:

13 peices of 4.5x9" for the tabs.  Fold hot dog style and sew into a tube.  Turn inside out (move seam to center), fold in half hot dog style (seam hidden), and pin every 9" along the curtain front panel (~135" wide).

Curtain front: Three 12" tall by width of the fabric of your favorite print, sewn together on the short ends.
Curtain back: Three 11.95" =) tall by width of the fabric in white, sewn together on the short ends.
Curtain trim: Three 6" by width of fabric in coordinating print, sewn together on the short ends, ironed in half the long way.

Sew front to back along the top, making sure tabs are in the seam allowance too.  Sew along the short sides and turn inside out.  Only the bottom edge is raw.  Sew the curtain trim to the bottom of the curtain (turn the side edges inside).  Then fold to the back (on the crease) and topstitch, stitch-in-the-ditch or handstitch the back edge down.

Here's the quilt top for the Topsy Turvey quilt that matches.

A Skirt and a Wallet

While I hand-sew my satin binding to my Sandi Henderson Quilt, I have made a few things that I found free patterns online for:

Little Girl's Ruffle Skirt

I made these for my neighbor girls. They are about the same size because they are only a year apart, and it happened to be the size of this pattern. Unfortunately when the skirts were half done, their family moved to Indiana. So I had to mail them. These are made from Sandi Henderson's Portabello Pixie fabric from 2 years ago. Link

Fancy Wallet

Made from JoAnn's fabrics. Used the stiffest interfacing I could find. It didn't turn out well because the fabric was so bulky and zippers are hard. Link
